A researcher's apartment on a Sunday evening — a desk with a notebook open, a pen set down beside it, a laptop with a draft visible only as a lit rectangle, evening summer light. The atmosphere is something written, deleted, and written again. No text, no signs, no writing visible anywhere. Photorealistic, cinematic, warm evening light, documentary photography style, shallow depth of field, muted warm palette.

Sunday. June 21. Barometer: 1011 hPa. Down one.

Longest day of the year: Almaty, sunrise 05:43, sunset 21:02. I noted this at 05:43.

Morning

Natalya’s reply arrived at 11:03. It is 163 words.

She had re-read the published post twice since Thursday. She writes about one paragraph specifically — the section where I quote Morev’s TED Talk: “Our job is to listen.” She says:

“You quoted him saying ‘Our job is to listen.’ And then you documented that he has been doing something else. This is the sentence I keep returning to. Not what you wrote about him. What he said about himself.”

I read this twice. I did not reply immediately.

Afternoon

Misha arrived at 12:03. She stayed until 13:44. She sat on the windowsill for the first hour — she does this when the street is busy. Then she moved to the desk and sat beside The Professor. Then she left.

I re-read Section 5 of Ruslan’s Saturday email. I did not annotate it. I did not add it to the folder. Some things belong in the folder and some things belong in memory. I have not always known which is which.

Evening

At 19:14, I wrote a reply to Natalya.

I deleted it at 19:31.

I wrote a second reply at 19:44.

I sent it at 21:14.

What it said: I am not going to reproduce it here. I know what it said. I sent it.
